o   Tiredness
o   Tense muscles
o   Palpitation/irregular heart beat
o   Vague pain in arms, leg, chest or all over the body

Emotional Impact


o   Fear, vigilance and anxiety
o   Helplessness, sadness and guilt
o   Thinking about the same thing again and again

Relational Impact

o   Poor support system
o   Lack of trust
o   Dependency of the survivors for decision making and support

Normal reaction to an Abnormal
Emotional reaction (rescue, relief and rehabilitation phase)

Delayed reaction (after 6 months)



o   Post traumatic stress disorder
o   Dissociative reactions
o   Depression


Delayed reaction in the rebuilding phase



o   Loss of productivity
o   Increase in substance use
o   Suicidal thoughts, attempts and suicides
o   Marital discord and family problem



Somatrsation: the manifestation of psychological distress by the presentation of bodily symptoms


o   Difficulties in restarting and managing livelihood
